Lantern clock by William Bacon

This clock was made in about 1645 and had to be wound every 12 hours. It has a balance wheel to govern its running because at that date the clock pendulum had not been invented. Lantern clocks developed in England during the 17th century are named after the similarity of the clock's frame to a lantern.
