Longcase clock by Jane Spurgin

This clock with an 8 day movement in a lacquered oak case dates from about 1706. It is unusual to see a clock signed by a women, but proves that Jane Spurgin was able to carry on the family business alone after her husband's death in 1700. However, shortly after this clock was made Jane sold her business to John Smothwaite.
