Wheelcutting Machine

One of the clock making tools on display in the museum. It is a rare survival of a type of machine that was used by clock makers from the mid 18th century to cut precisely the cogs, known as wheels, for the the clock mechanism. This example was one of the tools from the Hedge family business, most prolific clockmakers in Colchester.
