Town House interior
Grand
town houses made their first appearance in the 2nd century
AD when the native aristocracy of Britain adopted town life. This
stimulated a school of mosaic art in the town that provided sumptuous
floors for these new houses.
The
largest of these private houses were very substantial buildings with
two storeys and central garden courtyards. Some of the town houses
had central heating. Most of them had walls decorated with painted
plaster.
